Brooklyn Community District 2
Community Boards are the most local unit of New York City government, and the gateway to direct, nonpartisan civic participation.
The 59 Community Districts of NYC are autonomous, non-Mayoral City agencies authorized by the City Charter for the purpose of “planning of community life within the city, the participation of citizens in city government within their communities, and the efficient and effective organization of agencies that deliver municipal services”.
Each District is managed by a City staff, and represented by a Board of 50 local volunteers who apply for the privilege of a two-year appointment by their Borough President and City Council Members.
The BKCD2 District Office and Board serve 130,021 residents and related stakeholders of the designated neighborhoods of BKCD2: Downtown Brooklyn, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Fulton Ferry, DUMBO, Vinegar Hill, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
