NYC Emergency Management reminds New Yorkers to prepare for heat and heavy rain today, 6\/12.<\/p>\n

New Yorkers living in basement apartments are reminded to be prepared to move to higher ground or a higher floor during periods of heavy rain. Heavy rain may cause rapid flooding to basements with little to no notice and can be life threatening. Stay OUT of flooded basements under all circumstances.<\/p>\n

If you are outside during a thunderstorm, avoid open areas and try to seek shelter indoors.<\/p>\n

Should extreme heat occur, New Yorkers are advised to stay cool and stay hydrated. Avoid spending prolonged periods of time outdoors. Call 911 immediately if you or someone else shows signs of heat-related illness, such as confusion, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. To find your nearest cooling center, call 311 or visit https:\/\/maps.nyc.gov\/cooling-center\/ Limit travel and stay inside during periods of severe weather. If you must travel, exercise caution and visit mta.info or 511ny.org before leaving for weather-related delays or closures. NYS DOT Travel Advisory – Full closure of the<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Fort Hamilton Parkway Bridge over Gowanus Expressway from 10pm to 5am June 10 to June 13<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The New York State DOT is advising motorists that there will be a FULL closure of the Fort Hamilton Parkway Bridge over the Gowanus Expressway (I-278) in Brooklyn, from 10pm to 5am beginning Wednesday night, June 10th through Saturday morning June 13th to facilitate repairs to the bridge. Please note that the B16 and B70 bus stops may be rerouted during these closures.<\/span><\/p>\n

Motorists and cyclists should follow the signed detour to 6th Avenue North to access Fort Hamilton Parkway from Bay Ridge Parkway. The closure is necessary to facilitate work operations for the NYS DOT project rehabilitating the Fort Hamilton Parkway bridge over the Gowanus Expressway.<\/p>\n

JJCarty Park Planned Work began on Monday, June 8th<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In response to community concerns, gates will be installed at JJ Carty Park entrances beginning Monday, June 8th and work will last for about 4-5 days. Only one gate entrance will be worked on at a time, so the playground will remain fully accessible to the public during this work.<\/p>\n

Additionally, following completion of the gate installations, drainage issues from the spray showers will be repaired, and should take about three days to complete. During these repairs, the spray shower area of the park will remain closed.<\/p>\n
